- 1901 The Japanese colonial government established the Monopoly Bureau of the Taiwan Governor-General's Office.
- 1947 Following World War II, the entity was reorganized as the Taiwan Tobacco and Wine Monopoly Bureau.
- 2002 With Taiwan's entry into the WTO, the monopoly system ended, and the bureau was reformed into the state-owned Taiwan Tobacco & Liquor Corporation (TTL).
- 2008 TTL established the Nantou Distillery, commencing its production of whisky.
